2010 is the 14th year that the city of Belpre received the designation of Tree City U.S.A. The Belpre Tree Commission traveled to Athens, Ohio for the celebration and presentation of a plaque that will be displayed in the lobby of the City Building. Some of the qualifications to become and maintain a Tree City designations are: Celebrating Arbor Day with a community celebration, planting trees yearly and maintaining existing trees. Arbor Day was celebrated by planting a Gum Tree and Weeping Willow at the lower end of Civitan Park in the “Green” area. Tree commission members and city employees participated in the planting.
