The City of Belpre...

Was the second permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory. Established along the Ohio River in 1789 by members of the Ohio Company, the location was surveyed the previous year as Belle-Prairie, French for beautiful meadow.

Towering trees line streets throughout the city. They help frame charming older homes that testify to the history of Belpre. One of these, the Dana House on Walnut Street, was built in 1859, and is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites.

We welcome all visitors to our city!

Mike Lorentz- Mayor
